Rey Resendez is a transgender, 2Spirit activist and digital community organizer who got their start by sharing their story and vulnerability on social media. Seeing a lack of Latine and indigenous representation, Rey used storytelling and visual content as a driving force for change and be the representation they wished they had seen when they came out as transgender. Rey graduated with a BA in Psychology from Hunter College in 2013 and launched their non-profit career working as a Program Coordinator at Gay Men's Health Crisis, managing their transgender program (Project Transcend) and planning events for the community. Rey has gone on to partner with several organizations such as The Phluid Project, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), Hinge, Mazzoni Center, Strands For Trans, Equality New York, etc. Rey is also part of the Interdisciplinary Review Committee, curating workshops for the annual Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference. Rey currently works as an independent contractor, facilitating workplace inclusion trainings for schools, non-profits and corporate spaces. When not creating content or advancing workplace inclusion for trans and queer people, Rey facilitates behavioral health groups for Plume, a national telehealth service that provides gender-affirming care.
Rey currently resides in Queens, New York and can be found with their head stuck in a philosophy book, writing short stories or immersed in their yoga practice.
